We believe there are more forms of value than simply cash.

Connection with people and intangible experiences mean so much more.

We are creating a new way to find that little bit extra, Goodness Travels...

Rachel loves to dance.

She is studying American Tribal Style Bellydance. Tribal Style focuses on the interplay between dancers. All performances are improvised.

The joy is in the communication using a vocabulary of cues - arm posture, a tilt of the head…

Bev is an artist, she enjoys the vibrant colours and bold texture of oil paint. Technically she is selling her paintings but it is very hard to talk about them in a commercial way as they are they are still part of her and she is not yet ready to let them go.

Bev works part time as a midwife. She has 30 years experience in this field.

The story of our name: Rain on the Roof

Rachel lived in Malawi, Africa for 6 months; Bev visited her there.   see what this experience means

It is common practice for business owners to name their shops with sayings

e.g. "Jesus is The Answer Grocery Shop" or "Kupata Kusiana Hardware" (you get what you inherit)

Our decision to name our accommodation Rain on the Roof was influenced by this colourful African tradition.

Rain on the Roof is also a celebration of the West Coast Climate.

To us, the sound of rain beating on a tin roof brings feelings of comfort, safety and family.

"Nga roimata o nga Tupuna" is the Maori equivalent of Rain on the Roof. It translates to "tears of the ancestors". Tears of emotion not just sadness. In context this provokes a similar feeling of security, or being surrounded by and watched over by those that love you.
